Sylvie Le Bon de Beauvoir, philosopher and rights holder of the work of Simone de Beauvoir, introduces us to “Inseparable” (“Les inséparables”), an unpublished work by Simone de Beauvoir. This autobiographical text depicts the sexual and intellectual education of two girls who rebel against the world’s attempts to deprive them of free thought and force them into becoming wives and mothers in service to society.
This symposium is not only an introduction to this unpublished work, but also an opportunity for the people of Japan to (re-)discover a founder of modern feminism and her works, as well as place her in context with the struggles of today’s feminists.
