Feel free to register: https://events.teams.microsoft.com/event/81448b24-3564-4836-8760-b990017bcc1b@ab0a1eaa-e9e2-40bd-af56-c8341ba16eeb Weronika has worked on the translations and circulations of Beauvoir, Derrida, Barthes, Saïd and Butler's works. ABSTRACT "Simone de Beauvoir and censorship in the Polish People's Republic" The presentation will examine the specificity of Simone de Beauvoir’s presence in People’s Poland over the years and show – based on censors’ reviews – how the censorship office perceived her writing and shaped its image for Polish readers. Special attention will be given to two parts of Beauvoir’s autobiography – La force de l’âge and La force des choses – to demonstrate how political interventions in the text complicate her image as a fellow traveller, that is, a Western sympathizer of communism.
